The Disseminators of Science: A discussion of science communication career opportunities with experts in the field
This event aims to provide graduate students and postdocs who are interested in transitioning to careers in science communication with an opportunity to (1) hear about the career paths taken by experts in the field, (2) learn how to find career opportunities and what skills are necessary to transition to this industry, and (3) network with professionals from the local and national science communication sector.
The event will start with a short introductory talk by Sara Grady, editor of Helix Magazine and Communications Specialist at Northwestern, followed by two keynote talks from Gail Teitzel, PhD, Editor at Trends in Microbiology, and Lovett Evan Reddick, PhD, Medical Science Liaison for AstraZeneca. The talks will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the three speakers and additional participants including: Jessica Turner-Skoff, PhD: Science Communicator and Treeologist at Morton Arboretum; Lisa Qu, PhD: Medical Writer at Weber Shandwick – Element Scientific Communications – NU alum; and Julie Wang, PhD: Medical Writer at AbbVie – NU alum. The event will conclude with a networking reception.
